Jurubeba is a small tree that grows up to 3m in height. There is the kind of women that men. The leaves and roots (like the fruit) of both species are used for medical purposes interchangeability. Jurubeba is typical of Brazil, Argentina and Parguay.

The active constituents of jurubeba were documented for the first time in the'60s, when German scientists discovered new steroids, saponins, glycosides and alkaloids in the root, the trunk and leaves. In the leaves and fruit have been identified the solanidina and solasodina, two elements in phyto-chemical which has the properties of probabilmehte protector of the liver of the plant. Clinical research has documented that solanine, which is also contained in jurubeba, has analgesic actions (probably explain it in its ability to block pain impulses in the nervous system). The leaves and roots are used in medicine today as Brazilian tonic and fever, anemia, erysipelas, hepatitis, disorders of the liver and spleen, uterine tumors, irritable intestine syndrome, chronic gastritis and other digestive disorders as typical slow digestion, bloating and flatulence. A jurubeba of tea is a common household remedy throughout Brazil: from the aftermath of drunkenness and indigestion. Sometimes it is also applied externally as mush to heal wounds and skin ulcers.
